ACLU sues Minnesota charter school

Suit charges that the school has been using tax dollars in religious practices

The Minnesota branch of the American Civil Liberties Union filed a lawsuit against a charter school near Inver Grove Heights, claiming that they have been promoting religion with taxpayer money.

"Minnesotans are not interested in having their tax dollars go to fund sectarian schools," Chuck Samuelson of the ACLU, said. "The money's going to the mosque. It's all the same thing, the school is the mosque which is the property owner.”

The Tarek ibn Ziyad Charter Academy said in a statement, “We are surprised by today's actions TiZA extended an invitation to the ACLU-MN to visit the school and discuss its concerns, but the ACLU-MN chose not to accept our invitation.”
